"... a hybrid of exhilarating rock'n'roll. In a word: alternative rock. Turn it up and shake your hair in front of your eyes in celebration - Betty Moon have nailed it" Bill Adams, Exclaim!! Canada's Music Authority
The reincarnation of Toronto-born Betty Moon is of a singer/songwriter/guitarist thrilled to be part of a new collective collaborative effort. Betty Moon’s beautiful melodies and compelling lyrics, form a seamless but scorching mixture of alternative metal and hard rock.
Betty Moon is one of Canada’s greatest rock singers. Although she’s been known to stray off once in awhile, her niche in the medium of alternative hard rock appears to be where she is most at home. In the past, comparisons to Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin were associated with Betty Moon’s voice and music by the media. ”While honoured by those references, Laura Nyro, Patti Smith and PJ Harvey are the women in my musical life. I have been compared to Courtney Love and PJ Harvey which is actually pretty cool by me. I guess I've never wanted to sound girlie and somehow managed to achieve it without a sex change.”
Betty Moon has recently joined forces with Rick Tyrell (AKA Art Carcass) formerly of Gut-sonic, Chris Bates (the Anti-Chris), and King Gong on a new collaboration (band name TB announced). About the current band: One day, guitarist Rick Tyrrell just appeared at Betty Moon’s doorstop to drop off one of his latest Art Carcass CDs. The Anti-Chris suggested she get in touch to invite him by to jam. The three genuinely liked what they heard and decided they might benefit from a really good drummer. By the time the second jam came round a week later, King Gong fell out of the sky and into their basement. Their new record is due out end of summer.
“Despite a highly promising first jam, we expected it would take us a while to find the drummer that a band with this kind of potential deserved. Luckily, we were wrong. Ten minutes into our second jam our drummer problems were solved with a resounding crash as King Gong walked through the door, sticks in one hand and the most delicious chocolate beercake any of us had ever had in the other”.
"Right now I just want to be in a rockin’ kick ass band where I can sing and express my ideas, poetry and stories through my lyrics and song... oh and have some fun."
Betty Moon is Toronto's original Queen Street hard rocker chick, and continues to rock every room her band plays in. Currently getting radio airplay and strong attention in Europe, it's only a matter of time before the rest of the world becomes more familiar with her music. Tempestuous of nature and of a true rock 'n roll spirit and mind, Betty's moon is about to rise again.
