Review of The Demon Flowers Private Apocalypse EP in Eye Weekly
Fuse disbanded stoner rockers Sea of Green with Toronto rawk sister Betty Moon and you get a heavy, sexed-up outfit keeping that pre-alt.rock alternative- rock sound alive. If you miss Concrete Blonde, this could be your fix for darkly tinged tunes that are bold but not bludgeoning. Veteran Moon is still a refreshing frontwoman - - powerful without the raunch. Unabashed psychedelic guitar solos and a marshy production style drag the pace down somewhat so that the Private Apocalypse EP is best enjoyed in pieces for its potential singles. "C4 Yourself," "Good as Gone" and closer "Fun City" all kick it up with stronger, tighter riffs, searing, soaring vocals and a sense of playfulness. A bit too demo- sounding, but still Absolut(e) Queen West.
