The first known record of Betty Moon’s Birth was in 1560 in Mitcham, England. Her wild predictions were often jeered at, particularly her claims that one day Mitcham would be home to a place that made magical boxes from which came “musick and oftimes voices speaking or singing”. She was burnt at the stake in 1637 as a witch.
Betty Moon next appeared in Lake Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was a native woman named Wampomina. Very little is known about her exact age, but it is believed that she married a Huron chief in 1648, and her death was recorded around 1700. On her deathbed, she left a series of cryptic predictions, including “A country shall rise up that shall take the name of the great master of life.” Curiously enough, a record from the Spanish Inquisition dated 1748 contains an interview with a Fra Falice de Mentefacto woman that some scholars believe to be Betty Moon although this would seem to contradict the first record.
Although it is uncertain if she assisted in the defeat of Satan’s forces, it is clear that Betty Moon was instrumental in the slaying of the Lambton Wyrm in the early 1700s. The Lambton Wyrm was a monstrous serpect that preyed on livestock and children in Northeast England. It defied all attempts to slay it; its wounds would magically heal, no matter how severe. The eldest son of the Lambton clan, John, consulted with Betty Moon before attempting to slay the monster. Betty Moon instructed John to wear armour studded with silver spikes, and to fight the monster in the river Wear. John did as was told, and when the Wyrm attempted to coil around John, it was grievously cut by the spikes of John’s sword. The fast-flowing water washed away the pieces, foiling its efforts to regenerate. John succeeded in slaying the monster, restoring peace and safety to his homeland thanks to Betty Moon.
In the 19th Century, some believe that Betty Moon was the Bell Witch, a spectral force that tormented the Bell family of Robertson County, Tennessee, from 1817 to 1821. Although the Bell Witch’s behavior was of a kind normally associated with Poltergeist acitivity, it did speak, and clearly exhibited intelligence and personality, It described itself as “a spirit from everywhere”.
So, far there have been only two records of Betty Moon in the 20th Century, both of them extraordinary. The first, in 1959, occurred in Australia. Police in Australia were contacted by a frantic young man who claimed his mother was trying to kill him. His mother was found to be guilty only of having stolen his shoes, which she had placed in a ceremonial log. The young man insisted that his mother was “Singing him to Death”, a method of tribal execution that cursed the victim. Despite the young man’s pleas, the police said they could do nothing.
In her current incarnation, Betty Moon has taken the form of a young woman. Her main activities are musical in nature, writing and performing her own songs. Her talent for music are equal to her previous incarnations’ talent for magic and clairvoyance. As yet, there have been no reports of her singing someone to death, but it is still early in her career.
